Notes from 1870 census: Washington and his family were living in Phoenixville Burough, Chester County, PA. Washington's occupation was listed as a rolling mill (iron works) hand. Children living with the family were Elizabeth (Lizzie - age 5) and (Mary) Lucetta (age 1). Alice's birth place was listed as England. Washington did not own real property and his personal property was valued at $100.

Notes from 1880 census: Washington and his family were living at 162 Center Street in the Manayunk section (Ward 21) of Philadelphia in Philadelphia County, PA. Washington's occupation was listed as working in a woolen mill. Living with Washington and Alice were their children Elizabeth (age 15) and Luzetta (age 11). Elizabeth's occupation was shown as working in a cotton mill. The census did not indicate that either child was attending school. Alice and her parents were born in England.

According to 1890 Philadelphia City Directory Washington's home address was 162 Centre, Myk.

Notes on 1910 census: Washington and Alice were living with their daughter Mary at 4362 Gresson St. in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia. Washington's occupation was listed as engineer in a tube factory. The census indicated that Alice was born in England and immigrated to America in 1851.

Notes on 1920 census: Washington and Alice were living at 4508 Silverwood St. in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia. Living with them was their daughter Mary (name misspelled on census as Boigt) and their grandson Earl (ditto on name). Mary was aged 51 and Earl was aged 18. Washington owned the house but there was a mortgage on it. Washington's occupation was an engineer in a tube factory. Mary was a weaver in a plush mill. Earl was a clerk at an automobile company.
