Individual Note:   Notes from 1850 Census: Robert and Elizabeth were living in the Upper Ward of Manayunk in the City of Philadelphia. Robert's occupation was a weaver. Children living with them were William and Alles (Alice). All were born in England. William had attended school in the prior year and Elizabeth was shown as not being able to read or write. No value was indicated for real estate.

Notes from 1880 Census: William and Esther were living at 210 Center St. in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, PA. William's occupation was listed as working in a cotton mill. He was born in England. Esther was born in Pennsylvania and her parents were born in Ireland. There was an Ellen Guinn (age 35) living with them as a boarder and her occupation was listed as a dress maker. The children living with them were Edmond J. Nuttal (aged 8) and Robert Joseph Nuttal (aged 3). Edmond was attending school.

The census shows that William and Esther had been married for 30 years and that Esther had had 4 children with 3 still living. The census indicates that William was born in England and migrated to America in 1846 and has been living here for 54 years. He owned his house and it did not have a mortgage on it. Children living with them were Robert (aged 23) whose occupation was listed as a weaver and Elizabeth (aged 19). The census indicated that all family members could read, write and speak English.
