Individual Note:   Notes about 1880 census: James and Elizabeth were living with Elizabeth's parents Robert and Elizabeth Nuttal at 205 Center St in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia. James' occupation was listed as a laborer. His parents were both born in England. There were not children listed.

Notes on 1900 census: James and Elizabeth were living at 4320 Michell St in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia. Living with them was Elizabeth's mother Elizabeth Nuttal and James' sister Mary A. Preston (aged 45). Mary's 2 children Edward Preston (aged 25) and Wesley Preston (aged 20). James' birth month was listed as Nov, 1851, Elizabeth as July, 1852, Elizabeth Nuttal as Jan, 1824, Mary as Jan, 1854, Edward as Jan, 1875, and Wesley as Sept, 1879. Mary's marital status was shown as married (for 24 years) and she had had 2 children with 2 still living. James and Elizabeth were shown as married for 23 years with no children. James' occupation was listed as a policeman, Edward as a draftsman, and Wesley as a clerk. All were indicated as being able to read, write and speak English. James owned the house and it had a mortgage on it.

Notes on 1910 Census: James and Elizabeth were living at 4320 Mitchell St. in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia. Living with them were Elizabeth's mother Elizabeth Nuttal (aged 86) and James' sister Mary Preston (age 56). Both women were listed as widows. Also living with them was Mary's son Edward (aged 36). James and Elizabeth had been married for 33 years and had no children. Mary had 2 children and 2 were living. Elizabeth Nuttal had 6 children and 6 were still living. The census indicated that Elizabeth Nuttal was born in England and immigrated to America in 1849. James' occupation was listed as a policeman for the city and Edward's occupation was listed as a mechanical engineer at a steel mill (this entry is very blurred but looks like it says this). Neither had been out of work in the previous 12 months. All family members could read and write except Elizabeth Nuttal who was indicated as unable to write. The far right columns are very blurred and indestinct but appear to say that James owned the house and that it was free with no mortgage.

Notes on 1920 census: James and Elizabeth were living at 4320 Mitchell St. in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia. Living with them were Mary Preston (aged 65) and Edward Preston (aged 45).
