Welcome to the
Ziegler/Siegfried genealogy site. My family goes back
to some of the earliest German immigrants to the Southeastern part of
Pennsylvania. My ancestors lived for nearly 300 years in that part of
Pennsylvania. My parents migrated west shortly before I was born. I have
recently added the contents of my Ziegler/Siegfried Family Tree Maker
database to the website. My Aunt and Uncle gave me a family Bible that
dated to the 1880s. This Bible contained a family history that began
with my Great-grandparents and their children's birth and continued through
my birth. This Bible peaked my interest in our genealogy and over a five
year period following retirement I have been compiling the information
on my family that is shown here.
Dad's Family - Ziegler/King
My
dad was born in 1913 in Phoenixville, Chester County, PA. He was the
oldest of two sons born to Walter L. and Mary Luzetta (Zetta King)
Ziegler. Walter worked in the iron mills in Phoenixville at the time.
In the late 1920s after the birth of their second son Walter took
a job first in Philadelphia and later in Lansdale, Montgomery County,
PA. Walter was the son of Albert H. and Amelia F. (Swanger) Ziegler.
Walter was born in 1890 in Catasauqua, PA. Walter died in 1936 while
living in Lansdale, PA. Zeta Ziegler later remarried Allen F. Whitman.
Zetta King was the third of three children born to William B. and
Elizabeth (Hipple) King. Zetta was born in 1891 in Phoenixville,
PA. Following the death of Allen Whitman in 1954, Zetta lived until
her death in 1961 with my dad's brother and his wife. She died in
Sellersville, PA and is buried with her two husbands in the Greenlawn
Cemetery at North Wales, PA.
After my dad married my mom they lived for a time in Lansdale, PA prior
to moving west, where my Father worked as a butcher in a store owned
and operated by my Mother's Uncle. Later he worked as a butcher in
a meat packing plant. During the war, He went to work as a machinist
at an aircraft factory. He continued as a machinist until his retirement.
He died in 1974 and is buried in San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Los
Angeles, CA.
Mom's Family - Siegfried/Hedrick
My
mom was born in 1918 in Lansdale, Montgomery County, PA. She was the
oldest of 3 children born to Levi K. and Bessie (Hedrick) Siegfried.
Levi was the second child of Levi M. and Emmaline A. (Klausfelder) Siegfried.
Levi worked at a chemical plant in Wales Junction, Montgomery County.
He was killed in a boiler explosion in 1925 while Bessie was pregnant
with their third child. He is buried in Greenlawn Cemetery across
from where the chemical plant used to be located.
Bessie was born in 1900 in Hatfield, Montgomery County, PA. She was the second
child of George R. and Rose Malinda (Lukens) Hedrick. Following the death of
Levi in 1925, she lived in Lansdale and eventually remarried to Abraham T. Wambold.
Bessie had three more children by her second marriage. Bessie died in 1986 and
is buried with Abraham at the United Methodist Cemetery in Limeville, Lancaster
County, PA.
Following mom's graduation from Lansdale High School, she married my dad. After
the birth of their first child, they moved west so my dad could work in a store
owned by mom's uncle Charlie Siegfried. Mom died shortly after my dad in 1976
and is buried in San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Los Angeles.
