Individual Note:   Bio from Men of Allentown, Allentown, Pa. by Fred L. Shankweiler, 1917, page 121:

ELMER A. GUTH, of the firm of Guth Brothers, proprietors of the Lafayette Hotel, is the son of Albert J. D. and Sarah A. (Kressley) Guth, and was born on the old homestead of the family in South Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, Pa., September 25, 1875. He was educated in the public schools and early in youth also took up the study of music. Becoming proficient in the art, he taught music in Allentown for seven years, and served as organist of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church for a period of five years. After the death of his father on March 18, 1904, Mr. Guth, and his brother, George E. K. Guth (sic s/b B. K.), became joint proprietors of the Lafayette Hotel, located at 133-137 North Seventh Street. This is one of the oldest and most famous inns in Allentown. Under the progressive management of the Guth brothers it is equipped with every modern improvement and conducted along modern lines. Mr. Guth is a representative business man and stands high in the community. He is active in the work of Salem Reformed Church, being treasurer of the Sunday School and president of the James F. Hunsicker Men’s Bible Class. He is also president of the Guth Family Association, and a member of Barger Lodge of Masons; Allen Chapter, Royal Arch Masons; Allen Council, Royal and Select Master Masons; Allen Commandery, Knights Templar, and Lulu Shrine; the Elks, and the K. G. B. On October 6, 1898, he married M. Barbara, daughter of Alexander and Mary Guth, of Allentown.

Individual Note:   Bio from Men of Allentown, Allentown, Pa. by Fred L. Shankweiler, 1917, page 122:

GEORGE B. K. GUTH, of Guth Brothers, proprietors of the Lafayette Hotel, is the son of Albert J. D. and Sarah A. (Kressley) Guth. He was born November 18, 1882, on the family homestead in South Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, Pa. He received his primary education in the public schools, and later entered Muhlenberg College, from which institution he was graduated with the class of 1905. Following the death of his father on March 18, 1904, he formed a partnership with his brother, Elmer A. Guth, in conducting the Lafayette Hotel, 133-137 North Seventh Street. This is one of the oldest inns in Lehigh County, and their father before them, had given the establishment much popularity. But the sons, who belong to the more modern school of progressive business men, have followed with many and important improvements, which have resulted in making the hostelry one of the most attractive and up to date in the community. Mr. Guth is a member of the Alpha Tau Omega college fraternity, and of the B. P. 0. E. In 1906 he married Esther A., daughter of R. Peter and Rebecca Steckel, of Allentown.
