Individual Note:   Information from the 1900 US Census:

Nathan and Mary were living in Schuykill Township, Chester County. Nathan was rentin ghte house in which they lived. Living with them was there daughter Helen. Nathan was working as a fireman on the railroad. According to this census, Mary's father was born in Pennsylvania.

Information from the 1910 US Census:

Nathan and his wife Mary were living at 59 Pennsylvania Avenue in Phoenixville, PA. Nathan was a laborer in an iron mill. Living with them wre their two daughters, Helen and Sara, and one son, Roy. The census indicates that Mary had 4 children but only 3 were still living. Nathan and Mary had been married for 11 years (around 1899). Nathan was renting the house in which they lived. Mary's father was born in Maryland.

Information from 1920 US Census:

Nathan and his wife Mary were living in Schuykill Township, Chester County with two sons, Roy and Robert, and one daughter, Sara. Nathan was renting the house they were living in and was an engineer at an electric company. Roy's occupation was a brakeman on a railroad and Sara was a weaver in a silk mill.

The census did not list a value of real estate or personal property so it can be assumed that he was renting the farm.

John was living with his wife Sarah in Uwchlan Township, Chester County, PA. John's occupation was listed as a farmer. Living with them were their 3 sons - James, age 11; Nathan, age 4; and Charles, age 5 months. They enployeed 2 servants Samual Lininger and May Stone.

Individual Note:   Information from the 1850 US Census:

Nathan and his wife, Mary,. were living in East Goshen Township, Chester County, PA. Nathan's occupation was listed as a farmer. Living with them were 4 children - John, age 9; Mary, age 6; Hannah, age 3; and Elizabeth, age 6 minths. John and Mary were listed as having attended school in the last year. Living with the family were 2 others - Ann Gill, age 24 - no occupation listed; and William Stern, age 20 - occupation listed as farmer.

Information from the 1860 US Census:

Nathan Lewis was living with his wife, Mary, in West Whiteland Township, Chester County, PA. His occuation was isted as a farmer. Living with them were their four children - John, age 19, occupation listed as farm laborer; Mary, age 16; Elizabeth, age 10; and Mason, age 4. The census showed that the 3 older children had attended school during the past year. Nathan's persnal property was valued at $2,550. Living with the family was 3 others - Wilmer Glisson, age 21 - a farm laborer; Margaret Artes, age 19 - a domestic; and Hiram Evans, age 12 - no occupation but attended school.

Individual Note:   Hannah was listed on the 1850 census as age 3. She was not living iwth the family in the 1860 census which would seem to indicate that she might have died prior to the 1860 census. Another possibility was that she had been "farmed out" prior to the 1860 census to work for someone else. There was a Hannah Mary Lewis, age 15, living with a Garrett family in Willistown Township, Chester County, PA in the 1860 US census.
