Note for: Christoph Reinwald, 1703 - 14 JAN 1770 Index
Individual Note: From Schwenkfelder Genealogy:
"He came to PA. in 1734, with the group of immigrants. On November 1, 1734, he was married to Susanna SEIBT [E124], by written marriage contract. Witnesses signing contract were: Melchior KRIBEL, George REINWALD, David SEIBT and George WEISS; this contract was executed in Philadelphia and is perserved in the Schwenkfelder Historical Library. This is the only written marriage contract that has been discovered, but doubtless others were executed during the first few months after the migration, before the Schwenkfelders elected a regular minister. The name of Susanna SEIBT appears on the Immigration List as Susanna REINWALD [E124[.
Susanna SEIBT was the daughter of Hans Christoph SEIBT of Silesia. Christoph REINWALD was naturalized, June 21, 1743. He lived in Towamenein Township on land owned, in part (1920) by Rev. Edwin S. Anders [Plate F XIX]. Both Christoph REINWALD and wife Susanna are buried in Towamenein Schwenkfelder Cemetary.
Christoph REINWALD died so suddenly that in a quarter of an hour after he was stricken he was dead.
Christoph REINWALD was a brother to Judith REINWALD, wife of David SEIBT [E59]; and also to Barbara REINWALD [E125], who came to PA. in 1734, and who probably lived with him, and who died, August 24, 1775, aged 85 years. She is buried in Towamenein Cemetary."

Individual Note: Baptism record at Tohickon Reformed Church lists his given name as Jacobus. The sponsor was Abraham Wenholt (his grandfather??).
Notes from 1850 Census:
James and Catherine were living in Rockhill Township, Bucks County, PA. James was listed as a farmer living on land that was listed with a value of $1000. The only child at that time was Sarah Ann aged 1 year. Living with the family were 3 people (assumed to be laborers or servants) - Samuel Jay (aged 16), Catherine Fretz (aged 19) and Susan Snyder (aged 17). The family was living "next store" to Tobias (aged 52) and Elizabeth (aged 51) Wambold who was also a farmer. Tobias had 2 children living with him Jacob (aged 14) and Abraham (aged 9). (could this possibly be James' parents??)
Notes from the 1860 Census:
James and Catherine were living in Rockhill Township, Bucks County, PA. The post office listed for the page was Tylersport, Montgomery County. James' occupation was listed as Tabacconist (a cigar maker??). The value of the real estate was listed as $740 and personal property was listed with a value of $1000. Living with the family was George Harwi (sp? - aged 22). George's occupation was listed as segar (sic - probably cigar) maker. Also living in the house (listed as a separate visitation) was Mary Nase )aged 50). Living next store was Samuel Nase (aged 37), a day laborer.
{Note - There is a baptism at Trinity Lutheran Church for Ephraim baptized on 12/20/1869 and born on 3/6/1868 listing Jas Wambold and wf Cather as parents. The sponsors were Jas. Matthias and wf Julia Ann. I suspect that this might be another child of James and Catherine. I found this at the Spruance Library in a BCHS book listing Trinity Lutheran records on 7/14/2005}}
Notes from the 1870 Census:
James and Catherine were living in Springfield Township, Bucks County, PA. The post office was listed as Applebachsville, PA. James' occupation was listed as farm laborer. Only children living with the family at this time were Ezekiah, Milton and Owen. James was probably renting a house since there was no value listed for real estate. His personal property was listed with a value of $500.
Notes from 1880 Census:
James and Catherine were living in the Southern District of Lower Saucon Township, Northampton County, PA. A summation entry a few pages later listed the area as the VIllage of Leithsville. James' occupation was again listed as a farmer. The only children living with the family were Milton, Ezelkiah and James.
Notes from 1900 Census:
There was only 1 James Wambold living in Northampton County (Allen Township) in 1900. When I looked at the page for this index entry the writing was too faded to makeout any information. I suspect that this was James, Jr. first listed on the 1880 census and that James, Sr. and Catherine had died by 1900. This would agree with what Aunt Doris told me about James being buried in Hellertown, PA. Hellertown and Leithsville are both in Lower Saucon Township, Northampton County. On a list of members for the New Jerusalem Lutheran Church in 1895, I found Owen and Ezekiah Wambold. New Jerusalem was also called Apple's Church and is located in Leithsville. I am presuming that James and Catherine were members of this church also.
The other thing that Aunt Doris told me about James was that he had married a Susan Doup. The census record appears to indicate that James' wife was Catherine. This can be explained in several ways. Following should be investaged through Church Records and other sources:
1. Catherine preceded James in death. After her death James married Susan Doup and family is only aware of second marriage.
2. Catherine's actual name was Catherine Susan Doup or Susan Catherine Doup and following German custom used Susan as her familiar name and Catherine for legal public affairs (such as census). This is not unheard of and I know of at least 3 other places this has occured in the family.
3. I have the wrong James Wambold with a son Owen living in Bucks County around 1870. This was the only James I could find in Bucks County with or without a son Owen, so I think this is not likely.
