Text: First let me tell you there're a lot of errors in the Siegfried data on the Internet. Much of them there due to Jane Green's submissions to the LDS site www.familysearch.org . Others, such as John Conway in his database under submitter "fritzinc" on RootsWeb WorldConnect is another main contributor to error on the Internet. These people copy anything that's on the Internet, whether it's correct or not, then upload their Gedcoms as though it's original research. Johannes Sigfriedt is thought to be the immigrant of this family. His Parents' names and when and where he was born are not known (although "born sometime in the 1690's in Germany or Switzerland" might be a good guess). No one knows when he arrived in America or when he married his wife Elizabeth. Her place and time of birth are not known and neither is her Maiden name (you can find some of this "not known" data on the Internet, but contact the submitter and see if they can give you a prime source).
The first information we have on this family is in the Moravian Church records in Emmaus, Pa. which state: On 14Nov1719, a daughter Catherine was born in Oley to Johannes Sigfridt and his wife Elizabeth, Mennonites. The Penns "purchased" this land from the Indians in 1732, but a land speculator, Casper Wister, had already purchased thousands of acres of this land from the Penns in 1728. Johannes purchased his first land from Casper Wister in 1732 and followed this by several warrants from the Penns. When Johannes died in Dec1747 in Maxatawny Township, Philadelphia County (this area in Berks County after 1752), he had in excess of 600 acres of land which he divided equally between his two sons Joseph and John (see will attach...[text limited
